Recent study showed a shift of mentality in the American college students. It seems that newer generations grow more likely to be self-absorbed, attention-seeking and power-hungry than older ones. The study based on a set of statements such as "If I ruled the world, it would be a better place” that need to be answered was not accepted by an academic journal, situation that questions very much the credibility of the research. The results of the survey are however understandable in world dominated by the impact of image and form over content. It is all about self-promoting and PR two domains in which self-awareness help very much.

Apple TV media hub delayed until mid-March by Diana Zotescu
Apple playes middleground with the release of its Apple TV wireless media hub postponing it to March 20th. This comes after Apple officials denied early this month having any trouble with the release schedule planned for February 28th. The burning problem is with the customers that forepayed the Apple TV in hope that they will receive it by March 5th. In regard to this problem Apple spokeswoman Lynn Fox announced today that « Wrapping up Apple TV is taking a few weeks longer than we projected, and we now expect to begin shipments mid-March”. The Apple TV is designed for streaming digital movies, music and photos from computers running iTunes to high-definition TV sets.

Your e-mail safe again on MySpace ! by Diana Zotescu
A little regulated domain such as the Internet allows many frauds to express their creativity when it comes to making money. This was the case with two New York youngsters Shaun Harrison and Saverio Mondelli who developed a ‘tracking software’, allowing anyone who purchased their US $29.95 software to track the email and IP addresses of MySpace users, opening them up to spam, hack attacks and unwanted attention. A less intelligent move was trying to extort a $150 000 consulting fee from MySpace officials who instead of paying the money announced the Secret Services. Shaun Harrison and Saverio Mondelli ave to pay $13,500 to MySpace in restitution, perform 160 hours of community service, never use MySpace in any form again and will have to submit to computer searches whenever demanded, with any form of violation likely to see them sent straight to prison. End of story.

Public Relations, Oil and Politics by Diana Zotescu
What do Public Relations, Oil and Politics have in common? Some would say nothing. Everything I dare say. For example the decision of the world powers to work on a tougher UN resolution affecting Iran’s nuclear plants led to an increase in oil prices above 61 dollars a barrel. If we add the bad weather from North Sea and the tightening of supplies we can foresee that the oil prices are going to go up in the next weeks. Wrap it up in a nice press release and it will make a clear economic impact on the world’s oil markets.

How to use Internet for Public Relations
Latest surveys show that people become more and more addicted to the Internet services of news providing. For example viewing video on the Web is not just the purview of the youngest demographics. Though males 18-24 are the most frequent viewers (35% view online video at least once a day), the 35-44 and 45-54 age segments are equally likely to view online content. This opens new doors for the PR business since news displayed on the Internet receive comments and feedback long after being posted. The Internet extends the life of a story months and months after being published. “People are increasingly getting their news from the Web,” Los Angeles Associated Press Editor Danny Pollock told a recent Public Relations Society of America roundtable. So the Internet is the now fashion of PR a business opportunity nobody should miss.

Quigo technologies take away Google customers
So I guess we all know the story of David and Goliath don’t we? It seemed liked history repeated itself when Quigo Technologies started to attract the disappointed customers of Google and Yahoo. What does Quigo have to offer that no one else does? Transparency and control of contextual ads. The story goes like this – you want to advertise on Google or Yahoo, you go ahead and buy some advertisement space and keywords yet you don’t know where your ad will show up …will it be a high ranked site? Will you get a third hand site? The testimonial of Jason Klein co-chief executive of Special Ops Media, an interactive ad agency, says it all.
“Because traditional networks are blind, I’ve always assumed that many of the places where your ads come up are on B- and C-level sites,” Mr. Klein said. “With Quigo, you know it’s on ESPN.com, not Joe Schmo’s sports blog. It’s a premium site, and you’re willing to spend more money.” PR is a tough business I dare say. If you are interested in developing more on your PR skills try The Foundry School program.
